Accounting is the language of business and is the science of providing useful information to people who make decisions. Some of you may end up being preparers of financial information, and most will end up using financial information to make decisions throughout your lives. In order to make effective decisions, you must understand the information that is used. Therefore, there are two key objectives of this course. First, it teaches you how the information is accumulated. Second, it focuses on techniques to enable you to read financial information and to make sense of it. The principal aim of this Course is to give you a firm grasp of essential accounting concepts and techniques that you will need to succeed in business environment. This introductory course will also provide the background you need to study other areas of business or to take more advanced courses in accounting. On completion of this subject you will be able to: Understand the logic and assumptions of accounting procedures; Record business transactions; Prepare financial statements; and Analyse and interpret financial statements.
