Week 3 - Assignment: Prepare a Presentation on The Butterfly Effect

The butterfly effect is a concept from chaos theory that suggests that variations in initial conditions of a dynamic system, no matter how small, can have a massive impact on the consequences of an event. That is, a butterfly flapping its wings in one part of the world can lead to a tsunami in another distant location.

For this task, you will prepare a PowerPoint presentation geared to an audience of retirement investors in which you identify “the butterfly effect” in the stock market, including how seemingly innocuous news can lead to volatile stocks for a company and then spread to the Dow Jones or S&P index.

Your presentation should consider what types of events or conditions in the structure of the stock market and biases in investors are likely to lead to the butterfly effect on price behavior.

In addition, discuss how to guard against self-fulfilling prophecies of decline leading to bad financial decisions.

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as “speaker notes” for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists. Support your presentation with at least five scholarly resources published in peer-reviewed journals during the past 7 years. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide) Notes Length: 200-350 words for each slide Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style where appropriate. Save the file as PPT with the correct course code information.
